A transdisciplinary collaboration

Mistra Environmental Communication brings together researchers from a range of disciplines with key actors in sustainability, including NGOs, authorities, companies and cultural institutions. Through this transdisciplinary collaboration, we draw on multiple perspectives, experiences, and forms of knowledge to develop critical understandings and changeoriented approaches to communication for sustainability.

Hanna Alfredsson

Voxnadalen Biosphere Reserve works on behalf of UNESCO to conserve biodiversity and ecosystems, develop prosperous communities and support research and learning for a sustainable societal transition.

Sanna Barrineau

Sanna is interested in how human-nature relations play out in the context of agriculture and food system transformations with a focus on care, futures, and time.

Passionate about contributing to strengthening human’s relationship with nature – for our and the planet’s health – building bridges to new target groups and participating in strategic collaborations.

Hanna Bergeå

Hanna is a researcher engaged in how people negotiate meaning, manage disagreements and process emotions in relation to environmental and sustainability challenges through social interactions.

Magnus Bergström

Forest engineer and entrepreneur who enjoys working alongside rural communities. Dedicated to sustainable initiatives that empower local people and improve livelihoods.

Camilo Calderon

Camilo Calderon is Director of Studies of the Environmental Communication and Management programme and Researcher in Environmental Communication at SLU. He is part of the project Textbook in M-EC.

Nico Carpentier

Thao Do

Thao’s work focuses on designing and facilitating stakeholder co-inquiry and co-creation processes, as well as developing innovative methods for transdisciplinary sustainability research.

Björn Ekström

Björn’s research interests include human and nonhuman engagement with information in scholarly conduct, in scholars’ relations with nonscholars and in environmental settings.

Anke Fischer

My research in this programme is driven by a curiosity for the interactions between emotions, values and knowledge-based arguments in discourses about the environment and environmental governance.

Klara Fischer

My research in focus area knowledge is driven by an interest in public discourse on new technologies for genetic modification, or genome editing, in food and agriculture.

Eva Friman

Eva is the program director of Mistra Environmental Communication. She is also working as a researcher within Focus area Transformation.

Nora Förell

Carin Graminius

Carin defended her thesis on climate communication in 2023 and has since worked as a researcher in Borås, exploring the role of everyday environmental data and affective environmental communication.

Ann Grubbström

Ann is a docent in human geography and a researcher at the Division of Environmental Communication. Her current research interests are transformative forestry, young foresters and forest education.

Marie Grusell

Marie Grusell is Senior Lecturer at Journalism Media and Communication JMG at University of Gothenburg and Associate Professor in Media and Communication Studies at the research centre DEMICOM at MSU.

Jutta Haider

Concerned with the social study of information, Jutta Haider researches the algorithmic shaping and datafication of everyday life, and media and information literacy in environmental meaning-making.

Lars Hallgren

Lars Hallgren is Senior Lecturer in Environmental Communication at SLU and part of the commons project Textbook in M-EC.

Alexander Hellquist

Alexander has worked at the university since 2010, focusing on participatory governance. He also has experience of policy analysis from the Environmental Protection Agency and the Water Authorities.
